From the moment Liz arrived at Buckfast Abbey in a beautifully restored classic car, the day felt timeless...
The grandeur of the Abbey provided a breathtaking setting for their ceremony, while the celebrations that followed couldn’t have been more personal—a relaxed marquee reception at the end of the family garden, bursting with colour, laughter and thoughtful details.
It was a wedding that perfectly balanced tradition with personality, creating a day that felt elegant, joyful and completely their own.
Buckfast Abbey is one of Devon’s most iconic wedding ceremony locations. Its impressive architecture and peaceful surroundings create an unforgettable backdrop, and photographing weddings here is always a privilege.
As Liz and Ben exchanged their vows, there was a real sense of excitement for everything still to come. Family and friends gathered outside afterwards to celebrate before everyone made their way to the reception.
The reception took place in a marquee at the end of Liz’s parents’ garden, and it was nothing short of spectacular.
Everywhere you looked there was colour. Vibrant flowers, peacock feathers woven throughout the styling and thoughtful personal touches transformed the garden into a celebration that felt relaxed, welcoming and full of life.
Rather than feeling formal, guests wandered between the marquee and the garden, catching up over drinks, enjoying the sunshine and making the most of such a beautiful setting.
What I loved most about Liz and Ben’s wedding was how effortlessly everything flowed.
There was no sense of rushing from one part of the day to the next. Children explored the garden, guests laughed together and the atmosphere was wonderfully laid-back from beginning to end.
Those are the moments I love capturing as a documentary wedding photographer—the conversations, the embraces, the spontaneous laughter and the little moments couples often don’t realise are happening around them.
As daylight softened into evening, everyone gathered outside once again.
Guests lined up with sparklers as the sun began to set, creating one of those magical moments that photographs so beautifully without ever feeling staged. Afterwards, people drifted towards the fire pit, chatting late into the evening beneath the Devon sky.
It was the perfect ending to a day that celebrated not only Liz and Ben’s marriage, but the people and place that meant so much to them.
Whether you’re marrying at Buckfast Abbey, celebrating in a family garden or creating a wedding that’s completely unique to you, I’d love to tell your story through natural, documentary-style photography.
The most memorable weddings aren’t about following a formula—they’re about creating a day that feels like you. My job is simply to capture it as it unfolds, so you can relive every genuine moment for years to come.
