Hosted in the garden of a family home, the marquee overlooked a beautiful summer garden where everyone was encouraged to kick off their shoes, enjoy the sunshine and make the most of a classic British summer’s day.
From the moment I arrived, it was clear this wasn’t going to be an ordinary wedding reception. It was joyful, playful and completely centred around spending quality time with the people they love.
There’s something wonderfully welcoming about a wedding held at a family home.
The garden had been transformed with a beautiful marquee, colourful flowers and homemade touches that made the whole celebration feel warm and personal. Guests wandered between the tables and the lawn, children played freely and conversations flowed as everyone settled into the afternoon.
It felt less like a formal reception and more like the best family gathering imaginable.
One of the most memorable parts of the afternoon was the sports day organised by Vera and James.
Friends and family threw themselves into tug of war, sack races and classic garden games, with plenty of friendly competition and even more laughter. Before long, Vera had swapped her wedding shoes for bare feet and was joining in herself, racing across the grass with everyone cheering her on.
It perfectly summed up the atmosphere of the day—relaxed, carefree and full of fun.
While there was plenty of excitement, there were quieter moments too.
One of my favourite photographs from the day shows Vera taking a well-earned moment to herself, relaxing barefoot in a hammock with a huge smile on her face. It captures something that every couple hopes for on their wedding day—that feeling of contentment when you can simply pause, look around and soak it all in.
Those natural, unplanned moments often become the photographs that mean the most.
The garden was filled with beautiful seasonal flowers, delicious homemade cakes and the kind of easy-going atmosphere that only seems to happen on a warm summer afternoon.
Family members chatted in the sunshine, children ran across the lawn and laughter echoed around the garden throughout the day. Every part of the reception reflected Vera and James’ personalities—welcoming, fun and wonderfully down to earth.
Whether you’re celebrating at a family home, in a marquee or in a beautiful garden anywhere around Bristol or the South West, I’d love to capture the story of your day.
You don’t need an extravagant venue to create unforgettable memories. Sometimes all you need is the people you love, a little sunshine and the freedom to celebrate in your own way.
